Moonville Tunnel in OhioMoonville was a town in Vinton County Ohio in the mid to late 1800's. Iron and coal were mined in this area and the tunnel is the result of a discontinued railroad. Many workers of the nearby Hope Furnace lived in Moonville. The cemetary still stands just west of town but there is little if anything left of the actual town. Many believe the tunnel to be haunted because of a few untimely deaths that occurred. Yes those are telegraph boxes and wires. |

Find Route 278 in Vinton County.(Lake Hope Area) Past the lake, take first left. This will be Wheelabout Road, shown above as Township Highway 18. Road forks but stay left. Next, you follow this until you cross Raccoon Creek on a metal sided bridge. Immediately following this bridge you should be able to park on left. Same side as tunnel. Up the road on the right is the cemetary. Be respectful. It is broken enough already. |
